MADE FOR YOUR MANUSCRIPT

Small details. A beautiful difference.

Everything your next book needs, without the complicated software.

Typography with a point of view

Choose from 20 serif and sans serif families. Pair a warm Lora body with a clear Inter heading, or give a literary essay the quieter rhythm of EB Garamond. Body, heading, and cover fonts are independent. Your selected fonts are embedded in the PDF, so the document carries its typography with it.

Pages that feel like a book

Set the physical page size, margins, paragraph spacing, and running headers. A compact A5 essay feels different from a spacious Letter workbook. Use the live PDF preview to judge the result in context, including chapter openings, front matter, and page numbers.

A palette for every story

Explore 20 coordinated palettes, from quiet monochrome to bold cobalt. Change the cover, accent, text, and decorative colors together, or adjust individual colors. Keep your body text dark enough to read comfortably against the selected page background.

Your writing stays with you

There is no account to create and no manuscript upload step. Drafts stay in browser storage, and PDF generation takes place on your device. Download an editable backup before clearing site data or moving to another computer.

Create your PDF book

A format that holds its shape.

PDF preserves the page layout you choose. That makes it useful for downloadable guides, classroom material, portfolios, and books that depend on a deliberate page design.

PDF is a fixed-page format. It does not reflow like EPUB on an e-reader. Before distributing your book, open the downloaded file on the screen size your readers are likely to use.

GOOD WORDS DESERVE GOOD DESIGN

Create a professional eBook from your text

Begin with the reader, then choose the layout

A useful book starts with a clear promise. Decide who will read it, what they should understand by the end, and where they will read it. A short practical guide needs a different rhythm from a collection of poems. That decision helps you choose a template, chapter length, and page size before spending time on decorative details.

This online eBook maker keeps writing and formatting close together. Begin with the example book to explore the controls, then choose New book when you are ready. A backup of the current draft is downloaded before a fresh book opens. Add your own title and author name, and use the description field to record the purpose of the manuscript.

Turn a long manuscript into manageable chapters

One enormous text field makes a book difficult to navigate. Chapters give the manuscript a visible structure. Write a clear title for each section, add an optional subtitle, and move chapters until the argument or story develops naturally. Duplicate a chapter when you want to reuse its structure, and use the chapter-specific word count to spot sections that need attention.

Already have a manuscript? Paste it into the full manuscript importer. Headings such as “Chapter 1” and “Introduction” help identify boundaries. Read the proposed structure before applying it. You can edit the text in each detected section or return to the source to change the split. Import adds chapters; it does not silently replace your existing work.

Choose typography for sustained reading

Readable type is about more than the font name. A small font with narrow margins can look dense, while generous spacing on a compact page can create unnecessary page turns. Start around 11 or 12 points, then compare a few actual pages. Long nonfiction often benefits from a modest serif body and straightforward headings. Short instructional material can work well with a clear sans serif.

Set line spacing so the eye can comfortably follow one line to the next. Use paragraph spacing or first-line indentation deliberately. Combining strong indentation with large gaps can make every paragraph feel like a separate section. When a heading wraps, check that it still reads as a unit and that enough text follows it to establish the idea.

Use color as a guide, not a distraction

A coordinated cover can make a text-based book feel intentional without any stock photography. Choose a palette that fits the subject, then let the title do most of the work. A restrained accent can distinguish chapter numbers, quotes, and running text. The global color controls let you adjust these elements across the book without editing individual pages.

If you use custom colors, inspect both the cover and an interior page. A light accent can work well as a decorative line but be difficult to read as small text. The page background also affects the whole document: a tinted background might feel attractive on screen while using more ink when printed. For printable material, white interiors are a practical starting point.

Make navigation part of the design

The automatic table of contents follows your chapter titles and their final page positions. Rename and reorder chapters in the editor, then refresh the preview to see the updated result. Use descriptive titles rather than a list of vague labels. “Build your first weekly plan” tells a reader more than “More ideas” and makes the contents page useful on its own.

Optional front and back matter adds context without getting in the way. A dedication can be brief; a preface should explain something the reader needs before beginning. Acknowledgements belong where they do not interrupt the main work. An about-the-author page gives readers a helpful introduction to the person behind the book. Only enable sections you intend to complete.

Review the finished file, then keep the source

The preview displays pages from the generated PDF. Navigate beyond the cover and look at a chapter opening, a dense page, a quote, and the contents. Try a two-page spread on a wider screen to judge the rhythm of facing pages. Change zoom when you need to inspect a detail, and return to Fit page to assess the composition.

Generate PDF downloads the finished document, while Save draft downloads the editable book data. Keep both. The PDF is for distribution; the draft is for revisions. Local browser storage is useful for returning to a project, but it is not a backup service. Save a separate copy after substantial changes, especially before moving devices or clearing browser data.

A PLACE FOR EVERY KIND OF AUTHOR

What will you make?

For writers & storytellers

Shape essays, memoirs, poetry, or a short novel into a readable PDF. A chapter-based ebook maker helps you focus on each part without losing sight of the complete manuscript. Choose a literary template, refine the cover title, and include a short author biography.

For teachers & learners

Create a lesson companion, course guide, or workbook with clear headings and enough space to read comfortably. A4 and Letter fit familiar printing workflows. Follow the guide to creating a printable workbook PDF for prompts, response space, and print review.

For creators & small teams

Turn a useful collection of posts, notes, or internal knowledge into a focused resource. Edit repeated introductions, establish a shared vocabulary, and give each chapter a purpose. If the source lives in a document, use the Word or Google Docs to PDF ebook workflow to prepare a clean edition.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Is TextToEbook.com really free?+

Yes. The editor, templates, color palettes and PDF export are available without payment or account creation. There are no watermarks on your exported book.

Does my manuscript get uploaded?+

Book editing, draft storage and PDF generation happen in your browser. The application does not send your manuscript to a PDF server. Download an editable draft backup to keep a separate copy.

Can I paste a complete manuscript?+

Yes. Paste Full Manuscript detects common Chapter, Part, Introduction and Conclusion headings. Review and edit the detected sections before adding them. Existing chapters are preserved.

Which file format can I download?+

You can download a PDF book with selectable text and an editable TextToEbook JSON draft backup. EPUB and DOCX export are not currently available.

Can I choose A4 or US Letter?+

Yes. Choose A4, A5, US Letter, 5 × 8, 6 × 9, 7 × 10 or 8.5 × 11 inch pages. The chosen dimensions apply to both preview and PDF.

How are contents page numbers calculated?+

The PDF layout engine calculates chapter positions and resolves table-of-contents page references. The contents page uses the actual final document pagination, rather than estimated chapter lengths.

Can I use this for a long book?+

PDF generation runs in a background worker. For books over 15,000 words, use Update preview after editing so the entire book is not typeset after every pause. Available browser memory and image sizes still affect performance.

Will my draft be there when I return?+

The app automatically saves drafts using storage on this browser and device. Clearing site data, using private browsing, or switching devices can make a draft unavailable. Save draft downloads a backup you can import later.
